DD fan club welcome letter

Here’s the front and back of the Duran Duran welcome letter (written by Simon) sent to new fanclub members around 1983-4.

273 Broad St, Birmingham

Hello and welcome to the Duran Duran fan club. First thing I’d like to say on behalf of the band is thank you for joining.

This is your first packet from sent from us and I hope you like the gear. But this club is not just a means of getting information and pictures and things to you. It was also set up so we could keep in touch with you and your ideas.

So when you’ve got something to say, about the way things are run or suggestions or even just to say hello I’m alive, write to us because it’s important to know what’s going on. I hope you stay with us for a long while.

Yours, Simon

  1. Wow. I just happened to find your site on a quick search for “Duranies,” which my junior high school (1983-’84) had quite a few of. I had no idea that it would lead me to an entire archive of an official “Duranie” fan club!

At the time, my buddies and I were casual DD fans; I mean, their music was good, no doubt. But I don’t think there was any other band at the time that completely swept nearly every GIRL I knew off her feet. Geez. I knew a few classmates that were completely obsessed. I even knew one girl who bought the exact same Roland keyboard that Nick Rhodes had (which was $$$, btw)…and she didn’t even know how to play piano!

Anyways, it’s cool that you’ve taken the time to preserve all this stuff. Although I wasn’t a huge fan, Duran Duran was definitely a flagship of the best decade there ever was. Keep up the great work, and have a bitchen summer! ;)
